I thought I’d share my latest project with you just in time for summer. This particular project is near and dear to my heart because of how much it resonates with my own up bringing. For those of you who don’t know me, I’m a southern girl born and raised. Growing up I spent many summers living life like somethin’ straight out of a country song. I’d be sittin’ with my Mammaw on an old swing sippin’ on some sweet ice tea. It would be 100+ degrees, the sky perfectly clear except for the darkened corner painted off in the distance, and a slight breeze that would take the edge off the sweltering heat. We had some of our best talks out there with the cicadas and rolling thunder providing the soundtrack. So, with those treasured memories as my inspiration I wanted to encompass all of that into the screened in porch I was working on.
First off It needed a beautiful porch swing, that was a given. Although a wooden one would have been the obvious choice, I decided nothing would be more fitting than white whicker. Whicker provides the perfect blend of southern sophistication, romance, and relaxtion with its elegant silohette of curves. The resin swing I selected came with a chain and hooks to hang it with. However that wasn’t the look I was going for. I wanted more natural over industrial. So, I scooted my boots on down to Lowes and picked up the thickest rope they had along with some stainless hardware and lassoed that swing on up!
It’s the details that really matter and this was to be a sanctuary after all. You know, that quiet place you can slip away to. That place where you can have a moment of peace and are free to dream. To create such worthy ambiance I added shear draperies in a crisp white to soften the hard lines of the porch posts and for a touch of privacy. To stay in tune with the natural theme I used jute tie backs for the drapes and along with my sis, hand crafted macrame lanterns to inspire maybe a little late night reading curled up with a favorite throw (don’t forget the wine). For some much needed comfort tossed on a cushion and a couple throw pillows! To finish the look, something polished. An elegant mirrored top side table, in white, paired with rugged cedar coasters for contrast, and of course some mason jar glasses to complete the southern charm.
I hope you enjoyed this and are now feeling inspired yourself. As we say in the south, thanks for stoppin’ by!
PS. Thanks Mammaw for all your stories and of course thanks to mama’s little helper !!!( *Don’t forget you can leave a reply below this article.)
